This spring, don’t be afraid to go a little dotty (or stripey!). Prints are everywhere, and these items are definitely more wearable than they look. Take a hint from the runways — Donna Karan showed Rothko-inspired dresses and Marc Jacobs featured plenty of feminine florals. Or ease into the trend with patterned shoes or a bag.

Shoes: One of the easiest ways to wear a wild print is in a pump or sandal. Leopard print heels are a modern classic that is perfect with basic black, or you can try a small dose of Pucci with these sandals (great with another major spring trend — the white dress), available at Zappos.

Bags: A cheerful printed handbag is another way to wear a wild print. It’s a great way to add some interest to solid colors, or to add a bright pop of color to your neutrals. Go ahead, try a patterned bag like this Michael Kors bamboo print clutch – you will be surprised at how much it works with. This fabulous bag is from Zappos. Cole Haan also has some interesting printed totes at the moment.

Skirts: A bold printed skirt requires a little more daring, but the right one can be extremely flattering, and you can always stick to neutrals if you are worried about drawing attention to the wrong areas. Check out Marc by Marc Jacobs for pretty and flirty styles, or head to Yoox for this Proenza Schouler number — done in chocolate brown and white, it is the perfect piece for spring.

Blouses: Like patterned skirts, this much print can be a little scary. However, the right one can give a whole new look to your wardrobe. Sleek styles in soft colors are the most current (bright prints are difficult – they can look a little too eighties). Go cheap and chic with H&M’s patterned blouses, or try this gorgeous Diane Von Furstenberg wrap from Bluefly.

Dresses: It is the season of the dress, and there is a huge variety of patterned ones available. A DVF wrap style is a classic, and now is definitely the time to wear it. There are also plenty of summery options available at Bluefly, including this fabulous black and white paisley sundress from Kay Unger.

Even if you mostly wear neutrals, try some bright color or an interesting pattern this season. A great print will make you smile every time you look at it, and fun pieces can be had at every price, at stores from Target to Saks, and there is a pattern to match every style, from sweet florals to graphic geometrics. Spring is here, so look for your favorite prints now!
