Fashion Week Spring ’07. Ashish N Soni. Second City Style Fashion Blog

September 11, 2006 • New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer '07

So far this is one of my favorite collections. Sorry it took me so long to post. Ashish Soni was the first Indian designer to be
invited to participate in Olympus Fashion week a mere year ago.
His aesthetic is deeply rooted in Indian culture but one can certainly see many western influences in his designs. His show last Friday was nothing less than amazing. He has honed his skill of meshing clean lines, draping, beading, brocade with stunning fabrics like silks, linens and chiffons. The color palette included, white, muted gold, rich browns, shimmering charcoal gray and plenty of black. There were voluminous dresses with ballooned hems, baby doll dresses with capped sleeves, hour-glass shaped Balenciaga reminiscent black dresses, and a modern adaptation of the ‘shorts’ suit. Ahsish has mastered the art of architecturally creating simple garments that invoke major drama…a balancing act pulled off by few.
