Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer ’07.

Summary: Consuelo Castiglione of Marni showed something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue (athletic pants) for her Spring ’07 showing. Old were some of the patterns that are now easy to spot for miles, something new were the super sheen pieces, something borrowed really means the countless other designers who have tried to copy the no-frills Marni style (or it could mean the surprise bra top a la Prada) and something blue…as I mentioned, blue athletic pants with white side piping that oddly worked. I also adored the half-belted jackets that allowed for a fitted silhouette from the front and a free-slowing one from the back.

Color Palette: white, beige, black, navy, dark grey, grey-brown, blue-grey, moss, yellow, dusty rose, red

Textures & Details: crisp cottons; athletic pants & t-shirts; prints (abstract and plaid); half-belted jackets and dresses; belted light coats; voluminous skirts & jackets; patterned tunics; cotton leggings; shiny patent-like synthetic coated fabrics for jackets, skirts, tops and dresses.

Key Looks: Half belts in brown leather; sportswear; wooden-heeled sling-backs, patent pumps and open-toe clogs; enormous patent totes; as always, layers and free-flowing cuts; athletic pants as leggings; and as I like to call them…cinched circle-cuts.
