Ravishing, sublime, dazzling, mystical. Whatever your opinion of Rome, fashionable must be one of them. As Italy is a leading center in the fashion industry, Rome cannot be forgotten is style. Varying greatly from Parisian fashion, Roman style is defined by being casually cool.
How to prepare for your Roman Holiday:
• Relax! Most Romans keep it casual. Jeans and comfortable flats are perfect for visiting Rome’s famous sites.
• Theft is a big concern in Rome; however you can be sensible and stylish by carrying a small, low slung carry-all. As practical as a fanny pack, but much more chic! It will fit all of the necessities: cash, credit cards, camera, and chapstick.
• No matter what time you travel to Rome, the scarf will always serve as a fabulous accessory to your outfit. Whether it is a light neck tie or a warm pashmina, the scarf is a great means of accessorization.
This being my first trip to Rome ever, I was overwhelmed with the beauty of the city. My eyes could hardly take in all the splendid sites. Top spots to not miss: St. Peter’s Basilica (you will never feel so small!), the Colosseum (if only those walls could talk), and the Pantheon (it is perfect in its symmetry).
Oddly enough I was able to spot more fake Italian designer goods (particularly Prada and Gucci handbags) than I did on Canal Street in New York City. If you are in the market for a fake, it can be easily found on from street vendors at a reasonable price selling everything from sunglasses to wallets (and they look good, too!).
(I must say that Roman men were much more “put together than the women.)
