Carrie Bradshaw once said, “It’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes — that’s why you sometimes need really special shoes!â€?

You see, shoes are a defining element of an outfit. Think about it: heels draw attention, flats make you demure, sneakers quicken your step and your boots say you mean it.

The other day I bought a pair of practical black pumps from DSW. It was hard to walk out of there with only what I needed, and not what I wanted. I practiced an enormous amount of constraint, considering the selection of shearling boots, ankle booties, textured pumps and metallic flats.

When I got home, I was disappointed. Sure I had replenished a basic, but my heart was yearning for those shoes that make a statement, a confidence-inducing style, that pair that says it all.

So, whether you’re single or not, this season, be sure to stock up on plenty of really special shoes.
