It’s In The Details. Das Dish: German Designers. Second City Style Fashion Blog

Maybe it’s Heidi’s cute accent and penchant for making the “auf’”ed
Project Runway contestants feel better with sweet goodbye kisses, but
this model cum fashion provocateur has me wondering—where are the
German designers? Other than the obvious Wolfgang Joop, Karl
Lagerfield, Hugo Boss and Helmut Lang, we rarely hear a peep about
fresh faces from Deutschland. Paris, London, Milan, Hong Kong,
Singapore, LA, India, South Africa and New York host the world’s best
and brightest designers every season but notably absent is hype about
Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Köln or any other Deutsch destination.

Quick shot: This week, let’s start with quick shot
of what’s up in Berlin. Legendary for their cutting edge design,
Berliners now have access to what the rest of the world will see two
seasons later. The innovative Berlinomat shop combines merchandise of
more than 150 designers under one roof. Luxus International makes its
sales space available to 60 designers/creators and even the legendary
galleries Lafayette launched their “Labo Mode,” a platform for young
designers to sell their wares in a special sales area for 3 months. It
was great to see MB Capital Fashion Berlin and PREMIUM Exhibitions
organize Berlin’s first fashion week last January but other than H
& M’s ( online guide to the badass avant-garde
backstreets of Berlin, there seems to be a bit of fashion amnesia
regarding this cosmopolitan center.
