Fashion Week 2007. Nanette Lepore: All Dressed Up and Too Much to Show. Second City Style Fashion Blog

February 5, 2007 • New York Fashion Week Fall '07

Sometimes there are just too many people at the party– so many people that even if the music is rockin’ and the food is divine the roar of the crowd overwhelms and it’s lost in a blanket of noise. Alas, while punctuated by pieces that were simply gorgeous (like a velvet swag dress with ribbon belt) Nanette Lepore’s carnival of sequins, feather, mohair and multiple velvet hues crowded out nuance and charm.

Colors and Materials: Brown, charcoal, brown/grey, metallic wool, flat broze with metallic shine, slate, magenta tights, plum, burnt orange, dark taupe, purple, pink dove-grey patterns. Mohair, plaid, feather trim, sequins, velvet, and lots of wool. She offers a matelasse hooded coat, as well as a cashmere godet.

Key Looks: Tons of shine and sparke that even extended to little hats and scarves that topped off each look. Her best ensembles used moderation to exemplify her materials and color preferences. Her successes: A long black wool dress paired with a shiny cropped jacket with subtle print (although it went wrong with the shoes), and a pretty plum blouse with sheer cut-out horizontal stripes, and one dress with vertical sequins and stripes (it’s saving grace was the the use of simple, sheer material and simple lines that toned down the "look at me sequins").
