Fashion Week 2007. Donna Karan Returns to Her Roots. Second City Style Fashion Blog.

February 10, 2007 • New York Fashion Week Fall '07

The latest Donna Karan collection reminded me of quite a few other labels- Lanvin, Armani (does anyone else think that those hats would have worked better at an Armani couture show?), and Prada, but no one so much as Donna herself.  Classic Donna, that is, with the bodysuits and all.  Actually, her basic black bodysuits would be an excellent layering piece this coming fall.

Color Palette: Black complimented with saturated jewel tones – teal, royal blue, purple, and red – plus a hint of gold.

Textures and Details: Yet more satin, a bit of metallic brocade, and patent leather combined for a very reflective show.  The platform trend continued with chunky, brightly colored heels that grounded the lightweight silky dresses.  The turbans and semi-strange hats with tendrils coiling around the face created high drama on the runway, but this is not a look for amateurs – kids, don’t try this at home.

Key Looks: Asymmetrical satin dresses, bustiers, and big shawl collars were the standout silhouettes.  Makeup was warm and natural and hair was sleek, scraped back, and mostly hidden by the hats.  Many of the looks had a bit of a forties feel to them – strong shoulders, nipped in waists, narrow skirts.

Overall Impression: If you liked her last few collections, you’ll probably find something in this one too – so Donna’s loyal clients should love it.
