I think that Max Mara was going for utilitarian chic, but many of the pieces (such as the satin jumpsuits) were too utilitarian and not enough chic. There was plenty of texture – fuzzy sweaters, furry trims, satin, and leather – and color – royal blue, golden yellow, safety orange, and rust-colored plaid. True to Max Mara form, there were tons of luxurious coats, mostly belted and very very plush. I have a feeling that I may like some of these more outside the context of the show (i.e. not paired with royal blue and orange pants). The slouchy wool trousers and crisp blazers also showed promise.
