Milan is a mecca for fashion. Compared to Parisian style, Milanese fashion is bold (perhaps best exemplified in Dolce and Gabbana’s always edgy advertisements). Hardly conservative, Italian designers are not afraid to experiment with daring looks. Color and geometric patterns are classic to Pucci, metallic accessories are favorites of Cavalli, and floral patterns recur in Gucci’s collections.
The high fashion streets (Via Montenapoleone, Via Sant’Andrea, and Via Della Spiga) are located in the heart of the city, very near the Piazza della Scala (about an 8 minute walk). These shopping havens are adorned with mostly Italian designers.. from Ferragamo to Missoni to Kenzo. The beautiful window displays are great for inspiration, if you are interested in an investment!
My favorite Italian label (for a tight budget) is Massimo Dutti. This label takes a fresh spin on classic pieces like linen pants, striped sweaters, and trench coats. Worth a look, and big bang for your buck!
P.S. I have said it once, I will say it twice… Italian men dress to a tee. I just find female Italian street fashion uninspiring.
