Bold shades of blue are the hottest hues this spring – and they are some of the easiest (read: the most flattering) colors to wear. Whether you go for a deep dark navy or a vivid electric shade, it’s definitely the season to be singing the blues.

Give your little black dress a break and try a little blue number – you’ll look current and you’ll stand out in the sea of noir. This sapphire silk bubble dress by Graham and Spencer is perfect for anything that requires a little dressing up, and you could work the comfortable and casual look in this cotton caftan dress by Rachel Pally (both dresses available at Pink Mascara). You could also look for a navy dress as a fresh alternative to black.

All shades of blue also look great with denim, and the monochromatic look is stylish and slimming. This Alice + Olivia dolman-sleeved sweater is lightweight enough for warm weather, and the off-the-shoulder cut is sexy enough for a casual evening out (maybe paired with some slim-fitting Bermudas). This Alisha Levine top would also be a good bet – check out the interesting ruffled details on the back. Be sure to pick up a couple blue tees and camisoles in various tones to layer this spring – the color works surprisingly well with almost any other hue, except for black. Royal blue and black together are just a little too eighties.

All varieties of blue are also popular for accessories. Navy can function as a neutral (paired with brights, it’s much more modern than black), and royal or cobalt blue is great for adding a shot of color to an ensemble, especially when it’s paired with shades of gray or light brown. These suede Sergio Rossi pumps would be a brilliant addition to any outfit, but they would be especially spectacular with another major spring trend, the little white dress. Deep marine blue is a fabulous color for an everyday bag – after all, it’s essentially same color as your favorite dark denims, and you wear those with absolutely everything, don’t you? This Miu Miu hobo would definitely add a bit of luxury and style to your daily routine.

This is one trend that will definitely still be around next fall and winter, so don’t be afraid to invest in pieces that you love. However, just say no to the brilliant blue eye shadow – its one trend that just shouldn’t come back, and besides, matching your makeup to your clothes is never a good idea.
