Up and coming designer Thakoon exclusively designed three white shirts, including the tie-neck blouse with puffed sleeves ($88) for Gap as part of Gap Design Editions available in select stores across Canada April 17. (CNW Group/Gap Canada) As we reported a few weeks ago Retail Detail. Filling the Gap: Rodarte, Doo.Ri and Thakoon to Design for Retailer. Second City Style Fashion Blog, Gap has partnered with the CFDA to make white hot revenue with these cutting edge designer shirts. Here is a preview of Thakoon’s contribution. I love its architectural detail and for $88, it’s a steal. What do you think? Does his style shine through or has does it have a gaping hole in its style factor… The Scoop on THAKOON: Born in Thailand and raised in Omaha, Neb., Thakoon Panichgul’s playful designs are charmed with sweet, offbeat details while embodying elements of classic American sportswear. He received his formal fashion education from Parsons School of Design, produced his first collection for fall 2004, and was runner-up in the 2006 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund competition. Thakoon’s pretty and witty design aesthetic has helped him develop a loyal celebrity fan base of fashion trendsetters including Rachel Bilson, Amanda Peet and Demi Moore. Featuring a tie-neck blouse with puffed sleeves ($88), a belted shirtdress with puffed sleeves ($88), and a shirtdress with ruffle detail at the waist ($88),Thakoon’s collection for Gap will help bring his style and sensibility to everyday consumers. “There’s such a classic coolness that comes with Gap. I think that, for me, to be involved in that kind of aesthetic, on that kind of scale, is really cool,” said Thakoon Panichgul. –Joanne Molina for Second City Style
