Like all girls, I love shoes, especially high heels. Naturally I’ve been delighted to see how they’ve been climbing skyward for the past few seasons, with platforms and wedges augmenting already towering heels. What’s so great about these styles is how easy to wear they are – all that extra material cushions your feet in a way that spiky stilettos just can’t. Here’s a few of my favorite pairs:
These bold red Marc by Marc Jacobs wedges with ribbon ties will make you four and a quarter inches taller and at least ten times more stylish. One thing they won’t do, however, is hurt your feet. The one inch platform and soft cotton upper make this one plush sandal. Besides, red shoes are perfect with this summer’s nautical-inspired looks (they also come in black, but don’t you own enough black shoes already?)
Sometimes, though, you need a shoe that plays back up instead of the lead. These woven leather Terry de Havilland platform wedges are the ideal complement to bright colors and intricate prints – although they are too interesting to be described as basic, their rich brown shade won’t steal the show. In fact, these ankle-strapped beauties deserve an Oscar for their best-supporting role.
Looking for something a little more glamorous? These Giuseppe Zanotti sandals should fit the bill. Thin gold snakeskin straps draped with glittering jewels, all piled atop a thick wooden platform? Even Cleopatra would be jealous of your gorgeous footwear.
In terms of sheer comfort, cork is probably one of the best materials for a platform or wedge. It’s shock absorbent, incredibly lightweight, and has a summery, casual chic vibe. Pair cork with a classic Missoni print, and you have a shoe that will take you from poolside to the city streets with ease. An added bonus: the yellow, white, and brown color combination of these Missoni sandals would be stunning with one of this spring’s crisp white dresses.
Sometimes you just have to go for broke with a pair of sexy, strappy sandals. These metal trimmed Sergio Rossi spikes are just a little bit dangerous, but the platform will keep you grounded (quite literally – the sturdy base that will help you maintain your balance). Throw ‘em on with a slinky little dress and prepare to have all eyes on you.
If you’re the kind of girl who loves her high heels, take full advantage of all shockingly comfortable platforms and wedges this spring. Unlike the skinny stilettos of seasons past, you’ll be able to walk in them all day and dance in them all night. After all, you can’t be a fabulous glamazon if you’re limping!
