Baby look at me and tell me what you see (couldn’t resist)…get out of the pouring rain and check out the student fashions at Fame 2007 tonight. I just got a front and center seat at the show this afternoon and was extremely impressed. The production was top notch. With a large screen video show running behind the models that kept the pace moving and provided closeups, there was not a bad seat in the house.
The show began with models in student designs in all red fabric which proved to be the perfect color to see cuts, seams and shadows on the clothing. If a garment looks quality and not tacky in hot red, it is bound to be a successful design.
Student collections followed where each produced 3-6 designs. I was also impressed by the fit of many of the designs as well as the tailoring. The fabrics were not always the highest quality, but what can you expect from a student budget? Besides, most of these students will not be designing couture. But getting back to the real world, many of the collections were a bit outlandish. Sculptural and space age clothing that you had to ask yourself, "how would that look out on the street or even a nightclub?"
With collections named Disco Deco, Space Grunge, and Midnight Pic-nik, I saw a lot of creativity from this school. Like watching Project Runway, there was excitement in the air. Don’t miss tonight’s encore presentation!
