Fashion Show. Nordstrom Designer Preview Benefits Costume Council of the Chicago Historical Society. Second City Fashion Blog

June 29, 2007 • Fashion Shows

The benefit for the Costume Council at the History Museum last night was successful in raising over $53,000. On display were mannequins with dresses and gowns from the Costume Museum, and what appeared to be the Nordstrom Designer Collection Shop camped out in the middle of a cocktail party with a dinner buffet – and wine. What a dream! Top designer lines such as Valentino, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and others that were also in the fashion show were for sale. On this unusually cool evening it was inviting to put your hands on soft wools, heavy silks and beautifully tailored Fall garments. After seeing the Fall Fashion weeks last winter, now it’s nice to find out what actually will be carried by department stores like Nordstrom.

The fashion show was top notch – which I have now come to expect from Nordstrom. They stood out at the show of Chicago Shops at the Merchandise Mart last Spring, and have continually do things bigger and better. The models strutted don the runway either in modern bob wigs (reminiscent of Natalie Portman in Closer) or wore long haired 70’s Charlies Angels falls. The Barbie doll appearance made you concentrate on the clothes, because I didn’t notice the clone-like appearance right away. The all-American easily sellable favorites came down the runway complete with "ohhs" and "ahhs" from the charity-supporting audience. Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Missoni, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Peter Som, Valentino, Badgley Mischka, and Redux Charles Chang-Lima. Black prevailed in the entire show, some warm camel colors at Kors, the navy silk dresses caught my eye from Stella Mc Cartney, a shot of bright red dresses at Valentino, and the gleam of gold-metallic biker chic at Ralph Lauren (in which case biker must now be a classic).

After the show it was back to the shopping area for everyone to find all the runway clothes. It looks like we’re going to have a nice season ahead!
