It’s obvious why Elie Saab is sought after by starlets and anyone seeking the diva-esque proportions of Old Hollywood glamour. Anyone wearing his cascades of sparkes and satin is going to steal the show. However, this year Saab made a habit of showcasing each gown solo– against a backdrop of black and as if to make it clear to anyone who missed it, his models were careful to overly pronounce arms and legs to illustrate not only how bodies come to inhabit his dresses but also how his dresses relate to the space outside those bodies.
And how does one accomplish this? Take a look at the burst of blue– it not only evokes a feeling but compels us to consider how light, shadow and the negotiation of space allow us to experience Saab.– Joanne Molina, Senior EditorSee the Top Ten Summer 2016 Trends for Women Over 40
