It’s that time of the summer where I am so bored with my summer wardrobe I begin looking forward to my favorite fashion season…fall. At the conclusion of New York Fall Fashion Week last February, I posted an article titled: “Fashion Week 2007. Top 10 Trends (You’ll Be Wearing) From Fall Fashion Week 07”
Now that some department stores and luxury retailers are clearing out their summer inventory to make room for fall fashions, let’s take a look at which trends we nailed and what you can purchase right now (or resurrect from last winter).
1. The Little Gray Dress replaces the summer’s Little White Dress, which replaced the Little Black Dress.
Gray is going to be everywhere. Pair it with a shock of the season’s hot colors like purple, electric 80’s blue or gunmetal.
2. Sleeve Detail
Lantern, bell, three-quarter…it doesn’t matter, the look is feminine, flattering and retro-glam.
This is great news for those of us who already have a love affair with silver. The metallics for fall are a little more muted, however, silver and gold are still au current. Think about adding shades of copper or gunmetal.
4. Chunky Knits
Yes, they are sometimes not flattering, but expect chunky knits to be huge (no pun intended) for the season. Just don’t look huge. Pair a chunky cardigan over a fitted dress or a crewneck with skinny jeans. Remember, the key is balance.
5. Body-Conscious/Fitted Clothes
It’s the return of the femme-fatale! Suits and dresses are cut closer to the body this season. After years of baggy clothes, it’s time to show off your figure.
Let the fur fly! Fur will be the hottest accessory of the season. Whether you chose a fur coat, fur accessories or a fur-trimmed jacket, you can’t go wrong.
7. Glamorous Evening and Day Dresses
Thankfully the dress trend sees no signs of slowing. Get ready to be alluring both day and evening.
8. Patent Leather
Shiny, shiny, shiny is the word for accessories this fall. Patent bags, patent shoes and full length gloves in not only black, but deep reds and purples will play off the darker color palette brilliantly.
