As we turn towards fall, we need to think about our closet necessities. This season, basic jackets are transformed into fun and feminine frocks. Covering up for the cold doesn’t mean covering up your style. These coats speak for themselves.

The Peacoat
Inspiration: Viktor & Rolf
Real Life: Neiman Marcus design ($295) at Neiman Marcus
Who thought a pea coat could look feminine? The Peter Pan collar and hidden empire waist give this coat a real girly punch. Plus, the bold magenta is so hot for the fall.

Sweater Jacket
Inspiration: Anna Sui
Real Life: 3.1 Phillip Lim ($480) at Net-a-Porter
The over-sized sweater is uber-popular this season, and rightly so—doesn’t it look so comfy chic? Dress it up with a turtleneck and tights (a la Anna Sui).

The Blazer
Inspiration: DKNY
Real life: Lux ($78) at Urban Outfitters
An absolute staple for every working woman. The metallic sleeves on this basic black blazer are too fabulous to pass up (such a surprising detail for an office meeting essential).

The Trench Coat
Inspiration: Burberry Prorsum
Real life: Walter ($319) at Saks Fifth Avenue
We all have one in our closets, but mine isn’t as jazzy as this great piece. Metallic is back this season, but in slightly more muted tones. I am also a sucker for bell sleeves.

Inpiration: Y-3
Real life: Vince ($695) at Shop Bop
It seems like every designer has a leather jacket out for this season. But this one doesn’t look like I pulled it off a biker’s back. The wide lapel and slightly cropped waist give this rocking jacket a feminine touch.
