Since my confession yesterday, I feel the need to admit something else. It’s my catharsis. If it were not for my fear of getting hugely fat, I would have become a chef or a food critic. I come from a long line of foodies. Oh and unfortunately from both sides, a recessive fat gene. Fashion keeps me in check. I digress.
I am getting used to living in NYC. I always loved visiting and thought myself somewhat an expert, at least in the visitor’s sense. I knew where to shop, could find any place (by cab) and had enough sense to ask natives where to eat while comparing it with it’s Zagat’s rating. However, living here is compeletly different. At times I feel like a fish out of water. One thing that is helping me get over my Chicago-sickness (besides being at the epicenter of fashion) is Tasti D Lite. Yes, I have developed a one-a-day (would be 4 a day, if I could afford it) addiction. I think it’s a healthy addiction, but I’m sure I will receive an email or feedback shortly telling me it causes some awful disease in lab rats.
If you are not familiar, Tasti D Lite (according to their website) is a lab-created frozen dessert that is 15-19 calories per ounce (and a typical serving is NOT 100 ounces), no more than 3 grams of fat per serving and no more than 16.5 grams of carbs per serving. They also have 100 flavors and in less than 2 short months I think I have tried at least half!
Locations are all over Manhattan and I had managed to avoid them every trip I made to New York, until I moved here. Now I want nothing else to curb my sweet tooth. I have even tried to mix flavors that I think will be repulsive together thinking I will break myself from this illness (addiction is an illness, right?), to no avail. For instance I thought for sure Cremesicle sharing a cup with Chocolate Pudding would be disgusting. Sadly it wasn’t.
Sometimes I even get two in one day making sure I hit different locations so nobody will notice. Hey, every location seems to have different flavors. Before my wedding, it was all I was eating. Some people have Starbuck’s, I have Tasti D Lite. Let’s face it, chances are I’m consuming less calories than a Frappucino addict.
So if you see a dog that looks like Benji tied to a parking meter, barking incessantly while he waits for his master to chose between Butterfinger, Peanut Butter n Jelly or Tres Leches….chances are it’s me.
