Bold colors are fresh and sophisticated amongst all the gray for fall. But are you wondering how to pull off vibrant color without looking like Bozo the Clown? The key to color success is balance: match bright hues with dark and dramatic accessories. Inspired by Versace, here’s how you can emulate this hot fall runway look.

1. Jewel Tone Dress:
Diane von Furstenberg Contrast Tank dress ($365) at Neiman Marcus
Slip into this sleek fall frock complete with turquoise tweed skirt and chic pleated front. The black bust anchors the contrasting color element throughout the outfit.

2. Shiny Shoes:
Steve Madden Seleena Pump ($129.95) at SteveMadden
Patent leather is back again this fall, although it never really left. Patent should be taken in small doses, and these Mary Jane platforms — which seem so strangely similar to YSL’s Tribute pump — are just enough shine to balance the look.

3. Tailored Handbag:
Prada Nappa Clutch ($995) at Saks Fifth Avenue
This pleated black leather clutch perfectly parallels the pleating of the dress. Plus, I love the retro gold Prada stamp (this bag is my current obsession).

4. Bright Jewelry:
A.V. Max Gold Pyramid Enamel Bracelet ($68 each) at
To complete this ensemble, your jewelry should be just as bright as your dress (remember: we’re thinking balance). With 10 bold colors to choose from, just stack these bangles on! I’ll take the black and the yellow, please…

And ladies, if you haven’t done so already, please invest in a pair of opaque black tights! They are the perfect finishing touch for a polished look this fall.
