For the first time in the United States, Burberry showed its Autumn/Winter 07 collection at the Millennium Park Rooftop Terrace in Chicago. Not only was it designer Christopher Bailey’s first stateside presentation, but also the first show outside of Milan, and accordingly, became a fashion spectacle heavily covered by national media. Hosted by Nordstrom and benefiting the Lookingglass Theatre Company, the event was brimming with the city’s most stylish citizens and their guest of honor: editor-at-large of Vogue, Andre Leon Talley.
Upon arrival, invitees followed a candlelit pathway upstairs to the tented rooftop, which housed an elegant Burberry boutique, complete with an awning constructed of classic Burberry plaid umbrellas. Summery libations like mojitos and chilled Riesling, along with bite-size delectables were passed among clothing racks and styled vignettes. After the cocktail hour, guests eagerly filed into an adjoining room and took their seats on either side of a black lacquer runway.
The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” served as the lyrical backdrop to the 35 looks that pranced down the catwalk as regally as the Prorsum horse itself. The logo as inspiration didn’t stop there – the entire collection paid homage to the medieval knight and its translation to a tough, rocking girl. Favorites included nubby cashmere knits and as expected, covetable quilted trenches and ruffled parkas.
