NY Fashion Week Spring ’08. Mara Hoffman’s Mod Prints Bring Back the ’60s. Second City Style Fashion Blog

September 5, 2007 • New York Fashion Week Spring '08

Summary:  Mara Hoffman brings us back to the good ol’ days where free love flowed, psychedelia reigned, and colorful graphic prints ruled the fashion scene. The iconic sixties returned in billowy blue and green silk chiffon, jersey drape dresses, and silk charmuse jumpsuits. What else is new for Hoffman this season?  A fully evolved swimsuit collection Though Hoffman recently told Fashion Wire Daily her inspiration for the show were birds of paradise, the crotched netting over bikinis and voluminous bell sleeves reminded me  more of colorful butterflies emerging from their cocoons. Hoffman, too, has emerged–as a force to be reckoned with.

Color Palette: Green, blue, gray, orange, brown, black, red, khaki, turquoise, purple, fuchsia, yellow, peach, and mint green

Textures & Details: silk chiffon, spandex, silk charmuse, silk jersey, crochet, cotton, macrame, stripes, orchid print, knit, chartreuse

Key Looks: Though not a huge fan of the hand crochet dress, spandex swimsuits, or silk chiffon shortsuit, I loved Hoffman’s bright colors and graphic patterns. The looks was ethereal and eclectic, though you may not see your average fortysomething rocking the very youthful silk chiffon Blue Flower harness flirt dress or the itsy bitsy Peach Shell Collage silk jersey double minidress. For the die-hard fashionista who likes to keep her color pattern basic, Hoffman is the perfect way to break out of the monotonous grey and black.
