NY Fashion Week Spring ’08. DKNY. Consistent But Confused. Second City Style Fashion Blog

September 9, 2007 • Fashion Shows

I really hope that the DKNY collection is not a hint of what’s going to come down the runway on Wed. afternoon at the Donna Karan show. While some of the ensembles hit the right note in terms of style: hats in the same vein as her spring show colleagues, hemlines at or below the knee and the fluidity of pant and blouse, there was clearly a bit of confusion on her part as to what season she was designing for….

The colors: black, orange, and dark taupe seem out of place and heavy, especially when used on trenches and what should be long, breezy looking flowing dresses. The  jersey fabric, which Karan knows so well is also out of place and heavy looking. the black and white also looks weighted instead of liberating (after all, who doesn’t feel good in such a classic pairing) and the geometric blocks and stripes that others like Thakoon did which such snaz are somehow old looking and tired. Even the peasant-style ensemble with pink overtones looks aged— something like a couple winters ago at NY fashion week. But I remain optimistic, she can’t go anywhere but up on Wed, right?
