Fashion Shows. Some Journalists Are Being Banned From Shows For Previous Comments/Bad Reviews. Second City Style Fashion Blog

October 8, 2007 • Fashion Shows

Freedom of the press, my foot. A fashion journalist merely doing his/her job can be banned from a fashion show if the review is not to their liking. In yesterday’s NY Post it was reported that Dana Thomas from Newsweek was banned from yesterday’s Louis Vuitton ready-to-wearMc_ds
show in Paris. In her book "Deluxe: How Luxury Lost It’s Luster" she wrote, "Vuitton is the McDonald’s of the luxury industry:it’s far and away the leader, brags of millions sold, has stores at all the top tourist sites – usually steps away from a McD’s – and has a logo as recognizable as the Golden Arches." Frankly, it’s a rather true statement. (I don’t eat McDonald’s). I think the same of Gucci, actually.

If you remember, Suzy Menkes of the International Herald Tribune was banned from Dior a few years back. We reported that Cathy Horyn was banned from Dolce & Gabbana last winter for writing a review that pissed off the brand.

So much for freedom of the press…oh and having an opinion as an esteemed fashion writer/reviewer. Beware…fashion’s a bitch!
