Roberto Cavalli has never been known for his subtlety, preferring instead to go for the gold, for the leopard, and the bling with all his designs. Of course, his recent collection for H&M was no exception, featuring a menagerie’s worth of animal prints, gold embroidered denim, and a fringed military style jacket that definitely made a statement. However, there were also a few tailored coats and ruffled tuxedo blouses that were a little less Hollywood to balance things out. The menswear was also surprisingly nice, especially the black trench coat – it has a real European flair.

Those of you who have shopped H&M’s designer debuts before know that something of a frenzy develops around the most coveted merchandise. If you see something you want, you had better snap it up fast, or risk losing your prize. The most popular items? Anything animal print (that is a Cavalli signature, after all) and the afore-mentioned ruffled tops. It’s also key to get there early – the floor-length dresses were gone by 9:45 and most of the other items were scarce.

Missed on the fabulousness that is this collection? If you live in a city where the line is carried, it might be a good idea to stop in next week and scoop up the returns – we noticed plenty of shoppers buying up everything they could, planning to return what didn’t work later (or sell it on Ebay). Everyone else?  Well, there is the Ebay option, or you can always mix it up with non-Cavalli animal prints and statement jewelry.  Either way, take a walk on the leopard-spotted and zebra-striped wild side once in a while – Roberto would definitely approve.
