Last night three Second City Style writers joined some of Chicago most fashionable to welcome Cynthia Rowley (and her new boutique) to Damen Avenue in Bucktown. Located amidst plenty of hip independent boutiques and down the street from Nanette Lepore, this Illinois native is in good company.
The boutique itself was a tiny jewelbox of a space, filled with quilted satin dresses in shimmering jewel tones, luxe metallic leather and ponyskin handbags, and even the multicolored glitter tights that were the most memorable item from her Fall/Winter 2007 show (remember these?).
Our favorite items? A bold turquoise shift with quilting at the neckline and 3/4 sleeves, sweet little cloche hats that were reminiscent of decades past, and a navy satchel that would be a refreshing alternative to a basic black bag. The overall verdict? This boutique is sure to become a go-to spot for cocktail dresses and other party clothes.
Now, when will future neighbor Marc Jacobs open the doors?
