Marc Jacobs has finally opened his much-anticipated Marc by Marc Jacobs in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood (seriously, the rumor mill has been churning on this one since last spring). In honor of his new boutique, Marc himself flew into Chicago for the store’s launch party, which was held in a chic gallery space and benefited Common Threads, a nonprofit devoted to educating children about nutrition (attendees could purchase a limited-edition t-shirt at the event).
The party included dinner and dancing (and music courtesy of DJ Perry Farrell), but the real treat was seeing the amazing ensembles being worn by fellow guests. Typically, Chicagoans don’t have a reputation for taking calculated fashion risks, but this crowd certainly proved that belief wrong. Yes, there were plenty of little black dresses, but there were just as many women in bold colors, striking metallics, or highly stylized vintage looks. And even though I have been known to sacrifice comfort for style (and I wore peep-toe shoes to the party myself – what can I say, none of my closed-toe shoes worked with my dress), I was impressed by everyone’s ability to deal with the subzero temperatures – there was quite a bit of creative layering going on.

And last but definitely not least, Marc looking dapper in a tailored charcoal suit.
