Summary: I have to admit, I had forgotten Peter Som had taken over the designing reigns at Bill Blass. I quickly remembered when I saw the first few looks go down the runway. Inspired by original Bill Blass lookbooks from 1969 and 1970, the show was mostly evening wear. Even though Blass was probably best know for his suits and sportswear, a lady needs to dress up, right? And let’s face it, it makes for a better runway show. Proving opposites attract, Som experimented with masculine/feminine (power suits, tuxedos pant suits) and day/evening (cocktail dresses, beaded gowns), yet there were some distinct Som details (shimmer, lame, feathers, fringe) thrown in for good measure. For his first showing, it was quite impressive. Now that he has built a base, we look forward to what he does for his next collection.
