If you look at it with one eye shut you can almost see Elizabethan collars in Gareth Pugh’s Fall ’08 ferociously fabricated collection. While you might not be seeing him on NYC socialites or LA celebutards I don’t think he’s prone to care. After all, this fashion week vet has been down the runway a season or two and has moved beyond the fugly sterotype most have haphazardly used to refuse consideration of his work.
That being said, Pugh didn’t let us down this year. But not even the godfather of runway Goth could avoid the two trends seen in his colleagues collection: bold color and neutrals. Heavy textures abound but the beiges and browns look, dare I say, almost normal? And the bright, neon cobalt hued faces forced our smile to get just a little wider. Still, black was the bonding agent in the collection. Fierce, hard geometric leather-looking garments wrapped around shoulders and men that resembled post-nuclear warriors followed ladies whose sex appeal can be summed up by one glance at their gravity-defying heel-less shoes. Bravo. — Joanne Molina, Senior Editor
