It is that time of year again, when winter is reaching an end and the stores are full of lightweight spring clothes, but warm weather and sunny skies still seem like a distant memory. So what is the solution to the winter blahs? A quick getaway to somewhere hot, tropical, and glamorous – so start checking for last minute deals and packing your bags for a fantastic long weekend (or more if you can swing it).

Scoring a great travel package might be easy, but packing a tiny suitcase is definitely not; however, being loaded down with luggage is definitely not glamorous or relaxing. Therefore, careful organization is essential when it comes to looking chic wherever you land. After all, the vacation might feel much too short, but the pictures last forever.

The most versatile item you can bring is a casual dress that you can dress up, dress down, and even use as a bathing suit cover-up if necessary. A solid color might be the best option, but a colorful print can work as well, especially if the rest of your travel wardrobe is fairly neutral. Something like this simple Splendid maxi-dress would definitely work, or this Marc by Marc Jacobs mini-dress could be a fabulous way to show off your (hopefully faux) tan. Just add a pair of embellished flats and a pedicure and you’re set for seaside cocktails – these BCBG sandals are an excellent choice.

Of course, no resort wardrobe is complete without the perfect swimsuit; yet nothing strikes dread in the hearts of most women like shopping for that suit. Fear not, however, for there are plenty of chic options that are surprisingly flattering. For instance, you can swim Old Hollywood style in a classic one-piece suit like this one from Vivre. It has all the sex appeal of a bikini, but it is much more comfortable to wear.

Last but certainly not least, you will need a casual bag that can go everywhere and a pair of shades to shield your eyes from the tropical sun, such as these black-framed sunglasses by Oliver Peoples – they are just a little bit mysterious. For the bag, pick up an inexpensive canvas tote, or go luxe with this Michael Kors straw number (either way, just don’t be the person who brings a leather bag to the beach – that’s so tacky!). Just add an umbrella drink and you’re all set for a stylish, relaxing getaway.
