Sure, we love the bold statement dresses, diamond earrings, gold clutches—but every year the Oscars is a time for screen sirens to wow us with new wonders–different ways to wear necklaces, wrapped dresses, new pleats, and textured tops coverings. We were expecting (and hoping for) deep yellow gowns and diamond earrings with a gem dangling, and while we didn’t get so much of that, we did get some surprise stylings that really took our breath away.
Here are the best trends we saw at this year’s amazing Oscars!
Minimal Jewelry On The Neckline
While we were expecting lots of jewelry–we got really…nothing at all! And that’s not so bad. We saw a few stars with no jewelry on the neckline, but who needs sparkly pieces when you can let the gown speak for itself?
Feathers and Fringe
We’re used to unexpected textures and sometimes we wished celebs would tone it down a bit. Fortunately for us, the feathered fringe added to the gowns of these beautiful ladies was just the right touch of class without going over the top.
Penelope Cruz in Karl Lagerfeld
It seems this one’s a classic Academy Awards showstopper, but this year stars were out in full force in off-the-shoulder stunners with just a little something to make them truly stand out.
For Anne Hathaway, it’s a draped floral accent…
Katherine Heigl goes classic in statement-y red with an interesting key-hole at the shoulder…
Hilary Swank in a clingy black dress with fringe…
Here’s something new …draped necklaces over gowns. Rather then going for classic chokers or no crystal around the neck at all, these stars played up their designer looks with a bold draping accent.
Ellen Page wearing a 19th century Fred Leighton chain
Nicole Kidman wearing a jaw dropping 1,399 carat L’Wren Scott necklace
And now for something different…
Celebs were tightly wound in these clingy bandage dresses. Some inspiration from the recent Herve Leger by Max Azria NY Fall Fashion Week runway perhaps?
Yes, red may have been the color of the night. But the color done right? The deep blues, purples, and greens, which were in abundance!
Also Jessica Alba, Penelope Cruz…
Perhaps the most ravishing "deep colored" dress of them all…
