We’re used to it from the Oscar fashion experts—Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz, Renee Zellweger—always look divine!
But when the new girls come around, and they’re challenging the veterans? We stand up and take notice!
Here are some of the surprise Oscar style winners we weren’t expecting to look so smashing!!
Last year, we never expected Jennifer Hudson to take Best Supporting Actress, but clamored for her nonetheless. And then she beat the odds!
Since then, this budding diva has become somewhat of a fashion diva–taking a role on the Sex and the City movie as none other then Carrie’s fashion savvy assistant
She never ceases to amaze us, or surprise us–as she sweetens down her sassy look at this year’s Oscars. Face flattering bangs, shimmering makeup and a pure white halter top gown by the normally over-the-top Roberto Cavalli makes Jennifer come out on top.
The new little darling of the screen world is the new little darling of the Oscars. We were sort of expecting a menswear combo–something like the cute, but crisp look what she wore to the Independent Spirit Awards, but we’re happy to note she pulled it off at the Oscars with her rockerish charm. Basic black in a vintage Jean Louis Scherrer look but the draping Fred Leighton necklace does the trick!
This Best Actress winner for La Vie En Rose is a newbie on the US screen scene and so she’s a surprise style winner in our books. To come from nowhere and to really make it, in both fashion and screen, is a momentous occasion in itself. Marion is positively mermaid-esque in her custom-tailored white Jean Paul Gaultier gown complete with fish textured look, Chopard diamonds, and Swarovski clutch.
Though she may be more known for being George Clooney’s girlfriend, Sarah Larson continues to amaze us. There must be something sharp about her, or Clooney wouldn’t choose her as his first date ever to the Academy Awards. This former Fear Factor star is also crazy gorgeous…and look at this! Could she be bringing something new to the table
The Oscars–usually known for deep reds, blues, greens, and yellows–could be the new place for florals! It is as far as Larson is concerned–as she chose this floral Valentino gown (one from his final collection on the runway no less) to be her Oscars gown. Enrapturing, we must say and a breath of fresh air in an awards show with bold, but not bright tones.
Hmm, we’re guessing George gives this one two thumbs up!
This pop princess is always back and forth for us. Sometimes experimental, sometimes divine–we never know what she is going to do next time! So we were pleasantly surprised and pleasantly charmed to see her in a classic red Valentino gown with hair tied back, just as someone her age should look. Not even up for Oscar, she did her part looking ever so elegant, classic, and chic. Looks like Miley is back to being a winner for us!
