Ahhhh, the pencil skirt–that classic, structured status symbol for the chic and sexy A-lister set. But as chic and sexy as they are, these taute numbers are also quite sophisticated and quite perfect for anything from that debonair cocktail party to the sultry shopping spree–and don’t forget that professional work gathering. (Celebs may not know the meaning of the word corporate work environment, but they never fail to look absolutely exquisite at speaking functions and corporate balls.)
We eyed the pure white versions at Rachel Roy and coveted the charcoal gray at Elie Tahari. We lapped up Vera Wang’s high-waisted look for her Lavender Label.
Because I love these basic, dressy, and textured pieces, because black is always back, and because spring is well on its way (and yet I’m still clinging fervently to the wools and tweeds of winter,) I wanted to pay homage to that one crisp piece that made these celebs quite the debonair fashion debutante. Here’s a little tribute to that fashion piece we know and love–-the pencil skirt and those celebs that pull it off so well!
Hayden, Hayden, Hayden. She’s only 18 years old. And yet, well beyond her years. We yearn to see her in something frilly, something frothy and girly and youthful and bright and bold and printed and graphic. But there is she, covertly clad in black and white number hair pulled back, top ruffled, and featuring the classic pencil skirt. And we can’t take our eyes off her! We’re not sure if Hayden is a smart cookie, but she sure looks the part.
Props to actress Ali Larter, who has pretty much been seen in it all, everything from white skinny jeans to feathery black gowns. And of course, our greatest joy is watching her score points with us for fashion risks and of course, fashion wins. Take a look at this tight, black pencil skirt and belt combination. Absolutely perfect!
Say bye bye to the goth years–those ugly years of experimentation when we saw our Brad Pitt beauty clad in black … black … leather, and more black. Angelina has traded eyeliner and long black skirts for crisp v-neck sweaters and an ad for suit-maker extraordinaire St. John’s, which finds her in crisp blazers and conservative skirts. Angelina, we’re a little jealous that you stole our man, but we love that you look good doing it. You need to put a little weight on your waify frame, but those pencil skirts add some nice roundness to your thin figure. And they’re great for your ordinary, everyday United Nations function–something you’re inclined to attend quite often.
Viva Victoria! The only woman in the entire planet that can wear a modest skirt that covers her knees and still look sexy. Ok, maybe we’re exaggerating just a little but we love that Victoria likes to change it up–jeans and shades one day, tweed skirts the next—and she’s especially delightful in those fashionable pencil skirts that women everywhere are imitating to their heart’s content. Did you see her classic cool that day she toted youngest son Cruz Beckham in an yellow and red scarf like the perfect fashion accessory? Sigh. If only we could look that good. We’re going to need to find our own Cruz to add to our collection!
The pencil skirt–get it while its lacy, short, floral, white, wool, tweed, or classic black.
