The only accessory that truly jumped out at almost every show during New York Fashion Week Spring ’08 was the belt. Okay and the hat. Jewelry really ran the gamut from chunky bangles, to large medallion necklaces to jewel encrusted works of art. However, did any one really stand out? No. Here are the six accessory trends that popped on the runway for Spring ’08. Then we promise, we are finished talking about spring until well, spring.

1. Belts
Belts were everywhere and with everything. Over dresses, over summer weight sweaters, with shorts and even one-piece jumpsuits. Your best bet is to purchase a wide and skinny black patent belt, because you will wear them with everything! Come to think of it, grab a dark brown one too. BCBG showed long brown leather belts that were simply tied around the waist with the buckle left hanging. Reem Acra showed wide belts in bright colors and floral patterns.

2. High Strappy Sandals
This may sound vague, but that’s because there were so many variations heels for spring. There were however, no cork, no wood and no platforms to be seen. And forget the gladiators, it’s back to stilts. Break-neck heels were everywhere. We Particialrly loved the open-toed, strappy, Oxford sandals shown at Peter Som and Rachel Comey

Some of the capes were even attached to the dress itself. It’s the modern version of the pashmina.

5. Large Envelope Clutches

What we love most about this must-have accessory is how the classic, clean lines compliment the tailored look of spring’s fashions.
