The climbing columns at Chicago’s old Union Station provided the grand entrance into GenArt’s seasonal ShopChicago event this past Saturday; and the textiles flowed as fashionably as the low-carb Fuze cocktails. Shoppers graced the elegant Great Hall fawning and purchasing clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry–and even some home furnishings–from over 80 emerging fashion and accessory designers.
Exhibitors included Second City Style’s own Vika, Cyndi Chan and Orlando Espinoza, along with Abigail Glaum-Lathbury, Erin Gallagher Jewelry, Haji Couture, Warth
Acarne, and the usual crowd-alluring Akira.
For those wanting a break from wandering the crowded aisles, the ShopChicago Beauty Lounge pampered guests with makeup applications, hair makeovers from Art & Science and nail
and spa treatments from Blo Salon.
It was surely an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon, and the crowd seemed a bit thicker than that of last year’s, boding well for the designers. It was refreshing seeing new faces and new items, especially those ready to welcome in the warmer weather. I’ve always been more enthusiastic towards fall fashion, however after this trying winter, the ShopChicago Spring 2008 event couldn’t have been better timed.
