Red Carpet Fashion. Design Cares Presents “A Night of A Thousand Lights” Benefiting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital

April 24, 2008 • Celebrity Style

Last night in New York City, celebs headed to the Roseland Ballroom on West 52nd Street and attended a fashion event to benefit St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Hosted by celebrity stylist and actor Phillip Bloch, the event featured the designs of Marchesa, music, and dancing. And of course, the red carpet brought out some good, bad, and confusing style decisions! Here are the high-(and low-)lights:

Michelle Monaghan

Overall, the Made Of Honor star gets it right and works the voluminous cocktail dress.
Love: The sleek hairstyle and the merlot color choice for evening.
Not that into: The clunky pumps. They seem a little severe for the delicate dress, but she makes it work by pairing them with the belt.

Olivia Palermo

Palermo takes a more formal approach than Monaghan, but looks just as good.
Love: The color choice again. It’s a hard one to pull off, but it looks gorgeous with her skin tone and makeup. Also, the bag. It’s not an obvious choice, but I think the cognac-colored leather really complements the super-feminine gown.
Not that into: The red nails. A nude manicure would have shown off the gorgeous accessories better!

I mean, she’s pretty much immaculate.
Love: Everything, especially the big statement ring.
Not that into: The fact that she probably looks this good when she wakes up in the morning. Not fair!

Lydia Hearst

Well, this one is a bit of a head-scratcher. Something is definitely off, but she looks pretty good in the end.
Love: How she is working the train. That takes some serious posing skill.
Not that into: The overly-naked back and the bedroom eyes. Combined, they just look a little too sultry for a benefit event.

Molly Sims

I love the southern girl, but last night was not her night.
Love: The fresh-faced make-up and the white nails. She at least got that right where others failed!
Not that into: The drape-y beading on the bodice. It doesn’t flatter her waist, and it takes away from the neckline. Also, I’m not really feeling the hair. Who decided to pull the front bit back? It would have looked much better all loose and uniformly wavy.

Alana De La Garza
The striking Law&Order star definitely struck out.
Love: That she attended.
Not that into: The color, the fit, the embroidered detail, the shoes, the lack of jewelry. De La Garza’s decision is a tough one to justify.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer

Dr. Ruth is still kicking.
Love: Her!
Not that into: Her clothes. But who cares, she’s Dr. Ruth!
