Cannes Style. Hits and Misses at the Indiana Jones Premiere.

May 19, 2008 • Celebrity Style

Cannes continues to give us the good and the bad of celebrity style. The good? Iconic stars at their best. The bad? B-list stars and hangers-on trying to steal the spotlight… or just misguided style novices? Here are some of both from the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull premiere, last night from Cannes.

HIT: Cate Blanchett
Another ruffled gown, another ethereal color, and more natural styling. Cate’s on a roll, and not yet in a rut. The new mother looks gorgeous!

MISS: Goldie Hawn

This gauzy gown ages the golden girl, and the stringy shawl is just unnecessary. The hair is a mess, and the glasses (obviously) don’t help.

HIT: Natalie Portman

A navy gown, accessorized in gold, with a red lip. Red carpet simplicity at its best!

MISS: Rachel Leigh Cook
Hot pink is hot for spring, but this much of it overwhelms the little lady. Also, does she remind anyone else of Jamie Lynn Spears in this look?

HIT: Maria Menounos

Well, at least a partial hit. We love the gown, but the hair and makeup are a little unflattering. We would have loved it even more with a natural eye and an updo!

MISS: Denise Rich

She looks pretty, but… ahhhhh SO much leopard!

HIT/MISS? Paz Vega

We love how Paz is channeling Dita Von Teese and old school sirens here, but we aren’t sure about this color for Spring. And the hip detail works from just about only this angle. This Old Hollywood glamor would be difficult to pull off, if Paz’s hair and makeup weren’t so impeccably done. Check out the shot below…

That is perfection. Congratulations to her beauty team! And that sort of glam is what Cannes should be all about.
