TV Inspired Style. Truly Inspired?

Although you may not watch the program, or you may think it is totally inane, the CW’s Gossip Girl is worth watching these days just for the styles chosen for show’s stars of all ages. Last night’s season finale featured a gown that stirred the pot at my house– some friends loved it, some friends despised it. I thought it was a bold choice for a mainstream show (Gossip Girl, after all, is not on HBO and doesn’t feature sexpert Carrie Bradshaw). Check out the bridesmaid dress of Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, below:

People I heard objecting disliked the collar, the belt, the gloves, and the ruffled skirt. But everyone loved the floral pattern. Here is the Ralph Lauren dress on the runway (I think it looks better on Blake).

Though I don’t love the ruffled tiers, I’m enjoying this look for spring formal-wear. It’s different, and I like that someone was daring enough to feature it on a primetime show last night.
