Trends. Metallics at Cannes.

May 22, 2008 • Celebrity Style

On the borderline of Spring and Summer, and in the French Riviera, what colors are particularly hot? We’ve seen everything from bold to black, but we are definitely loving the statement made by metallic gowns at the famous film festival.

Michelle Yeoh

Though technically this is a sequined dress, the champagne metallic effect is warm and gorgeous. The organic pattern on the sheer overlay keeps the sequins from being too glitzy or cheesy, and the overall look is not overwhelming, and chic!

Julia Gayet

This untraditional onyx metallic cocktail dress is one of the edgier pieces we’ve seen at Cannes, and a great way to do black differently. The matte belting at the waist completes the cool look.

Festival Juror, Alexandra Maria Lara

Ever since Marion Cotillard wore her scaly, sequined gown to accept the Oscar for Best Actress, we’ve been loving the scalloped pattern that has been popping up all over. Lara does it particularly well in short form with this silver number.

Allison Eastwood

Clint’s daughter looks simply chic in this satiny number. Golden girl from head to toe!

As the weather warms up, metallics still work! They’re obviously gorgeous for evening, done as well as they are done above, but we love metallics to perk up a daytime outfit, too. Shine!
