It was a Chicago love-fest Sunday night at the Victor Hotel located in Chicago’s re-emerging and trendy West Loop. The nightclub/lounge held the Fourth Annual Sine Qua Non Salons’: “Streets of Chicago” Hair and Fashion Show. Each year the show promotes a charitable cause and this year’s proceeds benefited Preservation Chicago. Preservation Chicago “raises awareness and helps take action in preserving the irreplaceable historic architecture that gives Chicago its distinctive identity and world-wide appeal.”
The Chicago fashion designers who were featured were: Jeff Millbern, Anna Fong and Wolfbait and B-Girls with a special appearance by Steven Rosengard of Project Runway. Just as the name of the show suggests, the clothing featured were very much “street” inspired in the sense that everything the models strutted down the red carpet wearing was something any girl could wear while strutting down the streets of Chicago – though with a very 80’s inspired theme. Simple shirting fabrics and linens made up A-line mini-skirts and even mini-er shorts and vests layered with plaid tops. The elaborate hair dos and make-up techniques were fashion designs in themselves and made for a very fun fashion show to attend.
While the elaborate hair styles were certainly eye catching, my favorite portion of the show had to be Anna Fong’s designs, which were made up of jersey dresses in jewel tones and hints of gold accents. The 70’s inspired frizzed out hair and the bold make-up only added to the glamour of the show.
The show was wrapped up with two day-wear pieces by Steven Rosengard, a different look than the formal wear we’ve seen from him in the past. But the party didn’t end there. The Chicago fashion scene continued to party and dance their Sunday night away.
