Last night Second City Style got to sit down with our favorite local Project Runway contestant, Steven Rosengard, after the Streets of Chicago Hair and Fashion Show. Of course, two of his own designs appeared in the show – a sleek beige and ivory coatdress and a red and white dress inspired by the Japanese flag and traditional Hawaiian quilts (among other things). Both were the kind of elegant daywear that would work for women of all ages – Steven is nothing if not versatile.
Post-Project Runway, Steven has been creating everything from the aforementioned daytime pieces to custom-made bridal gowns for Chicago-area women and beyond. He’s also been doing media appearances – for instance, check out WTTW Channel 11 tonight for his opinions on the Sex And The City movie’s wardrobe.
Of course, we had to get his opinion on that movie as well. Like us, Steven loved the clothes and the overall plot (if you’re a fan of the series, you are unlikely to be disappointed in the film). However, like us, he didn’t fall for Carrie’s Vivienne Westwood bridal gown – “if you’re going to go big, you need to take up the whole room!” he said. Also, the little blue bird wasn’t quite doing it for him (or the other SCS editors – personally, I am a fan of the bird, and Carrie’s more bizarre outfits in general. I love the weird when it comes to fashion). Another thing we all agreed on was how Kim Cattrall tended to get the proverbial shaft – “why do they always put her in halters or other things that emphasize her shoulders like a linebacker?” (also, Samantha…getting the shaft? See what I did there?). Last but certainly not least, we all agreed on the supreme hotness of Samantha’s LA neighbor Dante, and that Chris Noth (a.k.a. Mr. Big) has still got it.
