According to the Chicago Tribune, Michael Kors is planning to set up shop in Chicago. The New York-based Project Runway judge and black-blazer-wearing arbiter of fashion brings his brand to Chicago by way of the Magnificent Mile.
The company has signed a lease to open a namesake lifestyle store on the first floor of Night of Stars award winner, the 900 Shops, in a space currently occupied by
Club Monaco. Michael Kors lifestyle stores offer clothing and accessories that are more affordable than
the designer collection. However, Michael Kors is also opening a boutique next door in fall 2009 to
house his collection. This shop will have a street entrance on North Michigan and take over
space currently occupied by Stuart Weitzman shoes.
Don’t worry, thought– Club Monaco is only downsizing and not disappearing. The company plans to consolidate its two-level store to the second
floor, dropping the men’s collection and focusing on women’s clothing
and accessories. The entire Club Monaco collection will be available at a store opening in Bucktown in July.
