Although Wal-Mart not be the first place you think of to go jewelry shopping, the mega-mart chain has started an endeavor to give you a reason to look at their jewelry selection.
The company has announced that it will be introducing a line of gold and silver jewelry that can be traced from
the mine to store shelves, as the retailer looks to sell more jewelry
sourced from mines and manufacturers that meet its environmental and
human rights standards. From a company who has in the past been plagued with employee complaints and sweat-shop connections, this seems like a step toward a better quality of product and treatment.
Wal-Mart said the Love, Earth line, which includes a $69.84 sterling
silver necklace and $48 hoop earrings, will be sold in its U.S.
stores, Sam’s Club warehouses and online. You will able to log on to a website and learn about where your piece was sourced from, and the suppliers’ environmental programs. We hope this fad continues, so that all manufacturers can be held accountable for their wares!
"As the largest retailer of jewelry in the world, we see an opportunity
to bring more sustainable practices to this industry," a report from Wal-Mart stated. Who knew they were the biggest retailer of jewelry?
