Remember the days when Proenza Schouler were still fashion no-names? Well, apparently they weren’t–because even before they got their hands on the coveted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize back in 2004, celebs were fronting the label religiously during major events and nights out on the town.
Sounds to me like one Alexander Wang, who’s chances for winning this year’s award are pretty good considering many big name A-listers have already clamored for his clothing.
This makes me realize just how important a celebrity stamp of approval is on an up-and-coming brand. t has been that way for major underground brands like PPQ, Rachel Pally, Butterfly Dropout, Ports 1961, and even wild child Betsey Johnson, before she became the queen of indie-punk glam.
San Francisco native Alexander Wang (known for his laid back California style with a downtown street edge flair) has fans in Audrina Patridge and Lauren Conrad, Nicole Scherzinger, Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox, just to name a few.
By the way, the NY model crowd hearts him, too.
