Johnson also had some choice things to say about her celebrity clientele, which include rockers from the 60s to now. Janis Joplin, Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry, Nico, Madonna, and Amy Winehouse have all rocked in Johnson’s designs– Winehouse even work a Johnson frock for her wedding to now-incarcerated Blake Fielder-Civil.
She started by designing in the 60s, by sewing custom designs for entertainers like Lou Reed. "And Lou wanted his crotch to be big, so I would always cut him a big crotch." Thanks for the overshare, Betsey.
Her modern devotees are a little more pop, but they still harbor punk-rock sensibilities. Rihanna sports her gear onstage and on the red carpet.
