July 23, 2008 • Shopping

If you missed it yesterday (or were wondering what was going on with the tents) you can still head over to Daley Plaza today, July 23rd! No, it’s not a farmer’s market – it’s not vegetables – it’s clothes and accessories! Enjoy shopping unique designer clothing and jewelry and boutiques, right in the middle of the Loop at the Chicago Sidewalk Sale! And if you get there on your lunch hour between 12 noon and 1 pm, you can catch the fashion show and shop for what you like on the models!

There were plenty of specials and good deals, too! Get out there and see for yourself. The sale will be going on from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. That’s plenty of time to fall in love with something, run to your office, discuss with colleagues, think about it, and then run back out to get it!

Chicago Fashions for the Masses
Bonnie J Brown

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs brought fashion to the masses this past Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon during their Second Annual Chicago Sidewalk Sale and Fashion Show.  Smack dab in the middle of the city Chicago retailers, designers and artists converged onto Daley Plaza to show off their wares to the multitude of workers, tourists, shoppers, and anyone else who happened by.

The merchandise featured during the show ranged from kitschy jewelry to delightful baubles and beautifully designed dresses and even avant-garde hats created by Tonya Gross Millinery. While the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for the event, the inviting sun had people coming and going throughout the hour long procession of fashion that featured every type of style and had something for everyone to enjoy.  Some of the designers included were K. Amato Designs, Liquid Couture, Anna Fong, Heidi Hess as well as local boutiques such as Habit, Dynamic Studio and many more.

Although the show lacked a bit of innovation and mainly concentrated on current styles and summer trends, the main purpose of the event was not to mimic high fashion, but to get Chicagoans aware of all the great shopping and fashion possibilities here in the city.  Yet, I may have spoken too soon on the event lacking innovation, for Anna Fong and her designs of flirty, fun and romantic frocks are a sure sign of fashion done right and a great sign for things to come to the Chicago fashion scene and hopefully help continue to build Chicago as a great fashion city.  For more information on the show and the designers featured visit
