Peter Som will stay on at Bill Blass as creative director, even though there has been major speculation that he was leaving. According to WWD and New York Magazine, the designer hasn’t been paid in months, since Blass’s parent company, NexCen, is broke. There was also talk of Som being quite angry that the Spring 2009 show was canceled, due to funding issues.
So, how was he persuaded to stay? Anna Wintour encouraged him not to leave, even after he resigned last week, "for the sake of the label" according to the New York Post.
Som would stay on longer if NexCen could sell the brand to a company who could afford him, and NexCen needs the designer’s vision to make the brand marketable. Furthermore, NexCen might hold off selling the brand for another year unless they start seeing higher bids, so who knows where this year will take Som. For now, at least, he’s remaining at Bill Blass.See the Top Ten Summer 2016 Trends for Women Over 40
