Bryant Park is exploding with spring at this very moment, while I’m still debating on new pieces I need for fall. Fashion doesn’t necessarily follow the daylight savings time mantra we are all used to abiding by: Instead of “Spring forward, fall behindâ€, it’s more like, “Spring forward OR fall behindâ€. Why do we always feel the pressure of being ahead of the current trend, or being in the forefront of starting our own?
I admit I get sucked into what’s HOT right now just like the next fashion maven. However, I don’t look as far forward as I once did — in fact, this fall I’m trying to look backwards. Spring 2009 might be strutting down the runway, but I’m looking for deals from runways past.
Yes there are some trends that I feel are better left in last season; however there are many that I am seeing carry over. Ruffles, a lively color palette, belts, draping and classic fits are everywhere from what’s been displayed thus far — many similarities to what I see appearing on sales racks now. So why purchase a brand new item from a recycled look, when I can buy last season’s look at much a more frugal-forward price point?
