New York Fashion Week Spring ’09: Two-Faced at Araks

September 10, 2008 • New York Fashion Week Spring '09

Summary: There were many different styles going on at the Araks show, and confusingly, they were all part of the same collection…and sometimes the same look! Combining urban street & athletic accessories (high-top leather kicks and ear-flap riding hats) with sparkly, sequined dresses and a million & one colors, Araks didn’t quite hit a homerun for me (more like a double). There were severely tailored pants with bucket-like pockets that extended a few inches outward from the models hips (yikes!) paired with completely sheer tops with metallic details. And the (unfortunately) seen-over-and-over-again-this-week bubble shorts? Yup, Araks tackled them in the palest yellow. However, some of the flirty little dresses really were adorable, like the teal polka dot sleeveless tunic with sequined rosettes along the neckline, and the white cotton short-sleeved tunic with a black & white polka-dotted bib and low v-neck. Totally wearable with either those leather kicks (okay, maybe with ballet flats in my world) or gold platforms. There was also a fantastic long grey jersey dress with white satin panels that moved like liquid.
