Summary: You are not going to find much daywear on Reem Acra‘s runway, but for Spring ’09 we found whimsical eveningwear. Acra (known primarily for her amazing wedding gowns) invited us to travel with her through time to an attic atop a royal palace. The kind of dream attic where one can discover lost hidden treasure such as rich color fabrics and semi-precious stones…not your grandmother’s attic to be sure.
The clothes in shocks of bright color (like marigold, turquoise, aqua, tangerine, and flamingo pink) were the type of items you would think of finding in an attic in India and sometimes Hawaii. There were caftans with jeweled necklines, draped asymmetrical gowns, accordion pleated gowns, gorgeous painted floral watercolor fabrics and sheer gowns festooned in jewels. The only look that made me scratch my head was the black and white double-breasted, pinstriped zoot-suit. The person next to me said "Hamburgler" under her breath which I admit made me crack up. All in all, the show was just that, an amazing spectacular show of color and opulence.
